About HSBC statements

HSBC statements are compact and consistent, with transaction type codes in a dedicated column and a running balance that only prints when the day changes.

How to download your HSBC statement as a PDF

Sign in to HSBC online banking, open the account, choose Statements, and download the PDF.

Always take the statement file the bank issues rather than printing a transaction list from the browser. The issued statement is the document of record, and it converts more reliably than a printed page.

What a HSBC statement looks like

The table runs date, payment type, details, paid out, paid in and balance across the page.

HSBC quirks to watch for

These are the details that break a copy-paste into Excel, and the reason a HSBC statement rarely lands cleanly on the first try:

  • The payment type column is separate from the details column.
  • The balance prints on the last entry of each day only.
  • Multi-page statements repeat the column header on every page.
  • UK statements print dates day first, so 03/04 is the third of April. Dates are normalised on export so Excel cannot silently read them as March 4th.

What you get back

Every HSBC conversion returns the same columns, in GBP, so statements from different months and different accounts stack in one spreadsheet without rework:

DateTypeDescriptionAmountBalance
2026-03-04DDCARD PAYMENT TO SUPERMARKET-64.202,481.19

Check the export before you use it: opening balance plus the sum of the amount column should equal the closing balance printed on your HSBC statement.

Why not just export from HSBC directly?

Use the direct export when it covers the period you need. It rarely does. Direct CSV, OFX and QBO downloads are usually capped at a recent window, while PDF statements stay available for years, and they are the only thing left once an account is closed. Converting the PDF removes the date limit entirely.

Frequently asked questions

+Is the payment type kept in the export?

Yes, the type code is preserved so direct debits and standing orders can be filtered.

+Does it handle HSBC business banking statements?

Yes, business statements use the same column structure.

+Is the HSBC statement converter free?

Yes. No signup, no email and no watermark on the output. The only limit is a 10MB file size.

+Do you store my HSBC statement?

No. The PDF is processed in memory to build the CSV and is never written to disk or retained.

+Is this service affiliated with HSBC?

No. This is an independent tool with no connection to HSBC. It reads a PDF you already have and never connects to your account.
