Bank statement PDF to Sage
Sage is heavily used by UK and Irish practices, where statements arrive as PDFs from a dozen different banks and the bookkeeping is often several months behind. A consistent CSV shape across every bank is what makes that workload manageable.

Sage Accounting import
Open the bank account, choose Connect or Import, select Upload a Statement, and map date, description and amount. Sage will preview the rows so you can confirm the date format before committing.
Sage 50 specifics
Sage 50 uses its own import routine with a stricter column expectation. Convert to CSV, arrange the columns to match your Sage 50 import template, then run the import against the correct nominal bank account.
UK statement conventions
British statements print paid out and paid in as separate columns. These are merged into one signed amount on export, which is what Sage expects, and it removes the manual step most practices do by hand.
VAT-relevant detail
The full description text is preserved, including payment references. That reference is often the only way to tie a bank line back to a sales invoice when preparing a VAT return.

Convert each account's statement separately and import to the matching nominal account.
