Bank statement PDF to Wave
Wave is popular with freelancers and very small businesses, which means its users are often the ones doing a year of bookkeeping the week before a tax deadline. Uploading converted statements is faster and more reliable than connecting a feed at that point.

Uploading to Wave
In Accounting, open Transactions, choose Upload a bank statement, select the CSV and map the date, description and amount columns. Wave accepts CSV directly and will preview the parsed rows before committing them.
Categorising in bulk
After upload, sort by description and categorise in blocks rather than row by row. Recurring payees such as software subscriptions, fuel or payment processors usually account for the majority of rows in a small business account.
Separating personal and business
Sole traders frequently run one account for both. Convert the full statement, then filter the sheet before uploading so only business rows reach Wave. That keeps the books defensible without losing the complete record.
Tax season checklist
Before filing, confirm the basics:
- Every month of the tax year is present with no gaps
- Each month's closing balance matches the statement
- Transfers between your own accounts are not counted as income
- Payment processor fees are recorded as expenses, not netted off revenue
Frequently asked questions
+Does Wave accept CSV bank statements?
Yes, CSV upload is built into the Transactions screen and works without a connected bank.
+Can I upload several months at once?
Wave accepts one file per upload. Either upload each month, or combine verified monthly exports into one CSV first.
+Will duplicates be flagged?
Wave detects some duplicates, but the reliable approach is to keep imports to non-overlapping date ranges.
