About Westpac statements

Westpac statements pack a wide description column alongside debit and credit amounts, which helps when reconciling business payments by reference.

How to download your Westpac statement as a PDF

Sign in to Westpac Online Banking, open the account, choose Statements, and download the PDF.

Always take the statement file the bank issues rather than printing a transaction list from the browser. The issued statement is the document of record, and it converts more reliably than a printed page.

What a Westpac statement looks like

Statements list date, description, debit, credit and balance across the period.

Westpac quirks to watch for

These are the details that break a copy-paste into Excel, and the reason a Westpac statement rarely lands cleanly on the first try:

  • Descriptions include payment references for direct credits.
  • Some products print an interest summary separate from the ledger.
  • Day-month dates throughout.
  • Australian statements print dates day first and often omit the year in the table. Both are normalised on export so nothing shifts on import.

What you get back

Every Westpac conversion returns the same columns, in AUD, so statements from different months and different accounts stack in one spreadsheet without rework:

DateDescriptionAmountBalance
2026-03-04CARD PAYMENT TO SUPERMARKET-64.202,481.19

Check the export before you use it: opening balance plus the sum of the amount column should equal the closing balance printed on your Westpac statement.

Why not just export from Westpac directly?

Use the direct export when it covers the period you need. It rarely does. Direct CSV, OFX and QBO downloads are usually capped at a recent window, while PDF statements stay available for years, and they are the only thing left once an account is closed. Converting the PDF removes the date limit entirely.

Frequently asked questions

+Are payment references kept?

Yes, the full description including references is preserved for invoice matching.

+Is the Westpac statement converter free?

Yes. No signup, no email and no watermark on the output. The only limit is a 10MB file size.

+Do you store my Westpac statement?
