About Discover statements
Discover card statements group spending into merchant categories for the cashback programme, which is helpful on paper and messy when you want a flat transaction list.
How to download your Discover statement as a PDF
Sign in at discover.com, open the account, choose Statements, and download the PDF.
Always take the statement file the bank issues rather than printing a transaction list from the browser. The issued statement is the document of record, and it converts more reliably than a printed page.
What a Discover statement looks like
Card statements show a payment summary, then transactions by post date with merchant, category and amount, plus a separate fees and interest section.
Discover quirks to watch for
These are the details that break a copy-paste into Excel, and the reason a Discover statement rarely lands cleanly on the first try:
- Cashback and rewards lines are not money movements on the card balance.
- Purchases print positive on the card even though they are expenses in your books.
- Category labels are Discover's own and do not map to accounting categories.
- US statements print dates month first, which is what a US-configured spreadsheet expects.
What you get back
Every Discover conversion returns the same columns, in USD, so statements from different months and different accounts stack in one spreadsheet without rework:
| Date | Description | Category | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-03-04 | CARD PAYMENT TO SUPERMARKET | Groceries | -64.20 |
Check the export before you use it: opening balance plus the sum of the amount column should equal the closing balance printed on your Discover statement.
Why not just export from Discover directly?
Use the direct export when it covers the period you need. It rarely does. Direct CSV, OFX and QBO downloads are usually capped at a recent window, while PDF statements stay available for years, and they are the only thing left once an account is closed. Converting the PDF removes the date limit entirely.
Frequently asked questions
+Do card purchases come through as negative amounts?
Purchases are exported as negatives and payments as positives, which is the convention accounting software expects for a liability account.
+Does it convert Discover Bank savings statements?
Yes, the deposit side of Discover uses a standard chronological ledger and converts cleanly.
+Is the Discover statement converter free?
Yes. No signup, no email and no watermark on the output. The only limit is a 10MB file size.
+Do you store my Discover statement?
No. The PDF is processed in memory to build the CSV and is never written to disk or retained.
+Is this service affiliated with Discover?
No. This is an independent tool with no connection to Discover. It reads a PDF you already have and never connects to your account.
